School of Empathetic Research

Artist Residency and Programming

Founded by Moving Sidewalk co-founder Corbin LaMont with Gibrana Cervantes, SER (School of Empathetic Research) is an experimental school for queer-led productions, events, and residencies. The residency program that ran for two years was a shared artists’ house for women and queer people located in Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico. The public program of SER has included a talk on non-binary activism, a workshop on consent, community-based art projects, a traditional fandango, and musical performances. Moving Sidewalk has provided creative direction and spatial design for both the residency and public program, informed by local artists and aesthetics. SER represents the values of Moving Sidewalk by serving as a model to imagine new worlds collectively and embody a change within traditional power dynamics.
